In Response To: Hot Springs Spas (-)

I purchased this spa from a reputable dealer who advised that this brand of spa would never leak so it would be ok to build it into a decking structure with an access panel to the most important equipment: Pump, heater, ozonator, etc. This spa has functioned flawlessly until 2005 when the PVC Pipes within the interior of the spa came apart at the glued seams. Unfortunately for me, this was out of warranty and cost me over $400 to repair. The good news is that the PVP pipe that was leaking terribly was in the corner that was accessible from the maintenance hatch that was built into the decking, per recommendation of spa dealer. Now we move forward only 2years, 2 months and the PVP pipe configuration is leaking again from within the walls of the spa. Service man said that this was one of the "Bad" years for Hot Springs where they did not use a primer on the PVC before glueing and this is a very common problem with Hot Springs. Later models corrected the problem however. My concern is that when a manufacturer such as Hot Springs caliber builds a Spa the piping, insullation, and general plumbing should NEVER come apart. This is part of the basic structure, just like a home, in very rare occassions does a pipe within a home wall leak. However, Hot Springs has this problem a lot with some of their models in some years. I feel that they should correct this defect at their cost due to the fact that it is the basic structure of the SPA. Now if the Heater, Ozonator, Pump or control panel goes out, I can understand that because it represents the moving parts, electronics. But the plumbing should NEVER come apart at any joint. This Soverign spa is not exposed to the weather elements, is never cold, never hot, never rained on and is under a protective roof and within decking walls. This is a defect in manufacture and so far, Hot Springs is unwilling to accept responsibility for this defect as they call it my responsibility. They claim to promote good workmanship and reliability, but they lack customer satisfaction. In the long run this will cost Hot Springs some business and maybe they don't really care, but unless I can get some considration for repair from Hot Springs, I cannot recommend this to anyone. It is really so sad, they build one of the best Spas on the market, but have internal flaws on some models and will not accept responsibility which will eventually lower their overall spa rating.
